Auditions

As DamShel produces new Australian plays, there is no formula for the timeframe within which casting for a particular show may be carried out as new scripts shift and change in the development process. DamShel encourages anyone who is interested to audition and is always eager to welcome new faces and fresh talent to its stage. Except as specifically required by the author for certain roles, DamShel policy is to cast regardless of colour, race or disability.

Into The Mirror

Into the Mirror explores the bond between mothers and daughters, relationships between lovers, families and friends; using the gender lens of Kendall’s transitioning to highlight the issues that are present within all relationships. The story shines a light on a slice of a community that very little is known about and reinforces the themes prevalent in transgender men and women’s lives are all universal and interwoven with the common struggle of the human condition.

As a manager Shelley was pivotal in supporting a male employee transition into the workplace as a woman. This began a series of discussions which first consisted about the work place and then turned into a long standing friendship which inspired Shelley to write Into The Mirror. Through the honesty of this woman and the truth of her journey the play became a celebration of her courage to have the image in the mirror truly reflect how she sees herself. The courage isn’t in the physical transitioning; it is dealing with the implications and repercussions on relationships.
